Eat Local: Ziggy's Pizza

Ziggy's Wichita, KS
It has been way too long since we've discussed food over here on JakeRamstack.com. Don't you agree? I thought so.

So once again, it's time to make your mouths water. And today I'm in the mood for pizza. But not just any pizza, Ziggy's Pizza at 3700 E. Douglas in Clifton Square.

This place is officially my pick for family dinners, college football watch parties, and of course, lunch.

Eat Local: Tanya's Soup Kitchen

With temperatures steadily climbing into the triple digits, I would think that a restaurant specializing in hot soup would be the last place Wichita residents would be heading on their lunch breaks, but Tanya's Soup Kitchen, at 1725 E. Douglas, is proving me so wrong.

Not even the hottest of Wichita summers is enough to curb the stream of hungry customers heading to Tanya's Soup Kitchen. Why? Because their food is just that good.

Eat Local: Flying Donuts

What's better than fresh donuts? I'll tell you, fresh donuts from a family-owned, locally-owned donut shop. Flying Donut, located at 4618 E. Central Ave in the College Hill Plaza, is just that.

Shop Local / Eat Local: Farmers' Markets

Kansas may be known for the wheat fields, but in Wichita there seems to be quite a market for fresh, locally grown produce of all kinds.

Enter our weekly parade of Farmers' Markets. They're the perfect way to spend a sunny Saturday morning, get a break from the evening commute with a stop and sample of a fresh peach, or just to people watch.

But let's be honest, if you come just to people watch, you know you're leaving with a loaf of fresh bread and maybe some preserves to go with it.

TUESDAY
On Tuesdays, you may not have to go any farther than the Green Acres Market parking lot to get your fresh produce and local goods fix.

Jet Bar-B-Que

Jet Bar-B-Que is the location of a momentous event. It is at this legendary Wichita bar-b-que establishment that I lost my first tooth... yeah, pretty epic. My childhood connection to Jet Bar-B-Que continues with my starring role in one of their very first ad campaigns. I was featured looking a little something like this:
Of course, Jet Bar-B-Que has more than just a connection to me to make it a Wichita landmark.

This bar-b-que joint is located in a historical firehouse on the corner of 3rd and Wabash. The large brick building is set off by the massive original doors and windows.

Eat Local: Del Sol Super Tortas

Welcome to another hole-in-the-wall Mexican Restaurant that has been around for years. This place is unlike any other, and if you haven't been for lunch yet... you will now.

Located downtown, hop on over on your lunch break and your taste-buds will thank you.

First up, order a mexican pop or go ahead and dare to order the "Rice Water". This is pretty much the most amazing drink that tastes like cinnamon-roll milk. They make it by boiling down rice, water, cinnamon sticks and a touch of sugar.
Don't be concerned about the bars on the windows, they are just protecting the Tortas. Yep, they are that good.

Restaurant Review: Cafe Maurice

Last night, my wife and I decided that to celebrate the first frost of the fall, we should go get something warm and filling for dinner. On our way to Cinnamon's Deli, another great restaurant we love, we saw the new restaurant Cafe Maurice, a few spots down. It has a mix of French and Mediterranean cuisine, which is very interesting.

Restaurant Review: Luciano's

A few weeks ago, my friends and I had a great night out to one of the most historic restaurants, Luciano's. A well-kept secret in the heart of downtown in Mulvane, Kansas, Luciano's is a restaurant with homemade Italian fare.

Restaurant Hop: Part Two

After a relaxing and entertaining start to our appetizers at Sabor, we decided to try out the new Italian place in Uptown. LUCA, an Italian kitchen, formerly the Mediterranean restaurant Uptown Bistro, has now been renovated to surprise and delight Wichitans.

The wine list is extensive, and ranges from many light and full bodied wines. Ask your server, they could help you pick out the right one.
